Helping you obtain Social Security Disability Benefits
If you suffer from manic depression or bipolar disorder, you may be entitled to Social Security Disability benefits. Bipolar disorder is a listed impairment in the Social Security Administration's impairment listing manual. A determination must be made that you can no longer perform your work or any other type of work in order to be awarded Social Security Disability benefits.
Symptoms of Bipolar disorder
Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive disorder, is a mental illness categorized by cyclic periods of extreme euphoria or mania, most often followed by periods of extreme depression. Bipolar disorder itself is not a solitary mood disorder, but a category of many mood disorders. Since moods are oftentimes up and down for most people, to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder the patient must experience four or five symptoms of mania for at least one week.
In order to be eligible for Social Security Disability you must have the medical records to show your disorder. Symptoms of depressive syndrome include loss of interest in all activities, loss of appetite, sadness, sleep disturbances, hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, psychomotor agitation, decrease in energy, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, suicidal thoughts and difficulty concentrating.
Manic syndrome symptoms may include emotional highs, substance abuse, paranoia, short attention spans, unusual behavior, sleeplessness, hallucinations, delusions, hyperactivity, pressure of speech, flight of ideas and inflated self-esteem.
