The Social Security Administration pays Supplemental Security Income benefits once per month. You will receive a monthly check or you can select to have your monthly check deposited into your bank account. You should receive your monthly SSI check on or around the 1st of the month. The Social Security Administration will determine the amount of your monthly SSI check. Not everyone will receive the same Supplemental Security Income monthly payment. The amount will vary according to your income and resources.
What factors decide your monthly amount?
Certain factors will influence the amount of your monthly check including the following:
- If you are married, your spouses income
- The number of children living your home
- If your are receiving SSD benefits
- Your living arrangement
- Monetary gifts that your receive
- Any resources that can be converted to cash
Depending on the state in which you live, you may be entitled to an additional benefit based on your receipt of Supplemental Security Income benefits. In the state of Pennsylvania, anyone entitled to even $1 of SSI benefits will be issued an additional $27.40 per month.
SSI and Medicaid
If you are awarded Supplemental Security Income you will automatically be entitled to Medicaid. Medicaid provides much needed health coverage at no cost.
